Andre Smith, ca. 1940 Since the Maitland Art Center, now Art and History Museums – Maitland, opened to the public, it has maintained a Permanent Collection of artworks ranging from founder André Smith’s works, to selections by modern artists that resided as “Bok Fellows,” and many other contemporary Florida artists. Goddess and Warrior, by Elisabeth Condon Previously known as The Research Studio, A&H's Maitland Art Center was home to a number of significant artists from 1938-1956. These artists were known as Bok Fellows, in homage to The Research Studio benefiting from the generous support of philanthropist Mary Curtis Bok.
