This program is free with regular museum admission

Spend quality family time together at the A&H! Each month we feature a unique opportunity to learn about art and history in an entertaining way that families are sure to enjoy.  Activities are held in a new location each month to provide a diverse educational experience.  Activities are designed to run about 45 minutes in length and families are encouraged to stay as long as they would like and enjoy the A&H museums.

February 15From Stop to LOL, the History of Communication at the A&H’s Telephone Museum
Carl Galloway changed communication in Central Florida forever when he brought the first phones to the area.  Learn about how technology and communication has changed through the years by learning Morse code, how to send messages with a telegraph, and how sound travels when you make a phone call.  Make phones, play games, and experience a working telephone office.

March 15: Garden Sculpture Party! at the A&H’s Maitland Art Center
Join A&H Artist-In-Action Dawn Rosendahl as we make the A&H’s Main Garden come to life with a large-scale collaborative sculpture. Using recycled materials, we will work together to create a unique piece of art. Fun will ensue with lawn games, face painting, and more.

April 19: Tool Time at the A&H’s Carpentry Shop Museum
Visit the Carpentry Shop this month for a special hands-on demonstration of tools used during the 1800s.  Your admission includes a special tour of the Waterhouse Residence with an emphasis on the carpentry work Mr. Waterhouse put in to build his own home.  Afterward, join us in the Carpentry Shop to try some of the tools yourself.

May 17: May Day at the A&H’s Waterhouse Residence Museum
Come visit the Waterhouse Residence Museum to learn about spring traditions in the Victorian period.  Guests receive a special spring tour of the Waterhouse and Carpentry Shop.  Afterward, meet outside the Waterhouse to learn about the tradition of the maypole and create your very own spring bouquet.

June 21: What’s Your Legacy? at the A&H’s Maitland Historical Museum
Join us at the Maitland Historical Museum to learn about Maitland’s legacy here in the Central Florida area.  Participate in a scavenger hunt in and around the museum to uncover clues of Maitland’s past and learn about the legacy you and your family can leave as well.

July 19: “Hello? Signal Corp? Number Please!” at the A&H’s Telephone Museum
Learn about the history of the Signal Corp, their involvement with the “Hello Girls” of World War I, and how they used telephones to communicate.  See some phones from the World Wars, create your own secret code to send messages, and practice being a telephone operator.

August 16: Interact! at the A&H’s Maitland Art Center
This month, the Maitland Art Center becomes interactive!  Come to our galleries and be part of a real exhibit.  Afterward, meet one of our Artists in Action to see an artist’s studio first-hand and participate in a short drawing lesson.

September 20: Architecture Challenge at the A&H’s Carpentry Shop Museum
Mr. Waterhouse was a very influential architect in Maitland.  Come tour his house that he built and learn about some of the hard work he put into its construction.  After your tour, meet us in the Carpentry Shop to take part in a special architecture challenge.  Bring your friends to work in teams and win fun prizes.

October 18: Keep Calm and… Celebrate! at the A&H’s Maitland Historical Museum
Come honor Britain’s longest reigning queen, Victoria.  See the newest exhibit in the Maitland Historical Museum and recreate the queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Queen Victoria was well known for keeping an extensive diary throughout her life. Create your own journal to record your royal thoughts and take part in a tea party celebrating Her Royal Majesty.
