Spend quality family time together at the A&H! Each month we feature a unique opportunity to learn about art and history in an entertaining way that families are sure to enjoy.  Activities are held in a new location each month to provide a diverse educational experience.  Activities are designed to run about 45 minutes in length and families are encouraged to stay as long as they would like and enjoy the A&H museums.

 

Schedule of events:

May 18: May Flower Power!  at the A&H’s Maitland Historical Museum
Learn about spring traditions such as May Day and dancing round the May Pole while making a beautiful bouquet of tissue paper flowers to keep or to share.

June 15:  Ticket to Ride at the A&H’s Waterhouse Residence Museum 
Maitland’s Train Depot was once the hub of Maitland’s action and news.  Learn about Train safety, make a train to take home, and learn about how the trains brought visitor’s to Maitland each winter to visit the Waterhouse family and other Maitland Residents.

July 20:  Happy Birthday, Maitland! at the A&H’s Maitland Historical Museum
It’s the city of Maitland’s Birthday and the A&H is throwing a birthday party!  Come join in fun birthday activities, have a piece of birthday cake, and see photos of Maitland growing up over the past 128 years.

August 17:  What’s so cool about school? at the A&H’s Maitland Art Center 
School hasn’t always been the way we know it today.  Experience what school was like for children long ago then design a school of your own and make spirit items for the school you go to now.

September 21: Superman Superhero Saturday at the A&H’s Telephone Museum
Many years ago when Clark Kent wanted to turn into superman he had to quickly slip into a phone booth to change into his costume.  Today at the Telephone Museum we celebrate Superman and his telephone booth.  Try out a telephone booth, draw your own superhero comic, and have some super fun!

October 19:  No Tricks, Just Treats at the Maitland Art Center
Decorate your own trick or treat bag for Halloween night.  Then visit the Art Center galleries and studios to see art in action and participate in a little early trick or treating.

November 16:  Give Thanks at the Waterhouse Residence Museum
The holidays are approaching and it’s always a good time to think of things we’re thankful for.  Learn about Thanksgiving traditions and create a fun centerpiece for your table.
