SUMMARY:Enchanted Florida: Picturing Contemporary Landscape
DESCRIPTION:‘Banyon as Metaphor: Grounded Paths’ by Lilian Garcia-Roig \nThe Enchanted Florida exhibition in A&H’s Maitland Art Center presents paintings\, photographs\, and video art by Florida artists whose works show that they search and long for pristine nature\, only to encounter a changing landscape blighted by urban and suburban developments. Featured artists include Lilian Garcia-Roig\, Bruce Marsh\, Alexander Diaz\, and Corey George. They represent Florida’s land- and seascape inspired by their real experiences\, as well as through the historical lens of early-twentieth-century renditions of untouched tropical nature. Their evocative works provide an opportunity to contemplate upon the impacts of human intervention on nature. \nVisit the Plan Your Visit page for hours & pricing. \nDon’t miss the Culture Pop! exhibition opening party on May 2nd\, 6-9pm!  Click here for details. \nUntitled\, by Alexander Diaz \n

SUMMARY:Summer Evenings with André
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that J. André Smith\, founder of the Maitland Art Center\, was not only an architect and artist\, but also a playwright?! This Summer\, the A&H — in partnership with Central Florida Community Arts — will regale you with his tales of romance\, murder\, comedy and drama! Three Saturday evenings of play readings will be offered\, each followed by a Q&A session. All proceeds benefit the Art & History Museums – Maitland’s National Historic Landmark. \nPlease note\, due to the adult themes\, these plays are recommended for ages 13 and up\, with parental discretion. \n[plsc_divider color=”black” style=”solid”] \nThe first of the three play readings (July 14) was a fabulous treat. — one of the attendees had this to say:\n“Tonight I attended a Summer Evening with André…I was embarrassed that as a 23 year Maitland resident it has taken me this long to spend an evening with André Smith. What an incredible man\, artist\, writer\, thinker\, creator Smith was… Director Kaitlyn Harrington and her band of actors did an outrageous job of bringing to life such edge-of-your-seat\, funny\, deplorable\, sad human life stories that incredibly could all be any of our life stories. I found myself sucked into each character and each act.” -Margaret \n[plsc_divider color=”black” style=”solid”] \nAUGUST 4: \nUnnamed WWI Play: A soldier\, left for dead\, returns to reveal the truth about another man who has been labeled a war hero. \nPumpkin Pie – A Shadow Play: When two children go looking for a pumpkin\, they encounter a wicked witch. This charming tale of adventure and dismemberment will be sure to delight your children. (If they are age 13 & up!) \nThe Bandit of the Var: A medieval tale of a prince who has lost his throne\, and the woman who can help him regain it. Sure\, he kidnapped her\, and yes\, she’s engaged to his brother\, but all is fair in love and war\, right? \nAugust 4th’s readings directed by Kaitlyn Harrington | Stage directions read by CC Smith & Kendall Smith\nUnnamed WWI Play cast: Nicholas D’Alessandro\, Jim Cundiff\, Holland Hayes\, Stelson Telfort\, Donald Johnston\, and Austin Humphrey\nPumpkin Pie\, A Shadow Play cast: Kaitlin Elizabeth Baxter\, Donald Johnston\, Ana Eligio\, and Missy Barnes\nThe Bandit of the Var cast: Josh Melendez\, James Blaisdell\, Austin Humphrey\, Arius West\, Gabriella Bivona\, and Donald Johnston \n[plsc_divider color=”black” style=”solid”] \nAUGUST 25: \n \nThe Golden Tomb: On a journey to leave New York for a digging party in Egypt with the assistance of an Egyptian Prince\, what could go wrong? This group is faced with a battle between power and love. Who will end up lovers and who will love betray?\n \n[plsc_divider color=”black” style=”solid”] \nAdvance pricing:\nSeries (all 3 performances)\, A&H Members  $60\nSeries (all 3 performances)\, Non-Members   $70\nSingle Performance\, A&H Members   $22\nSingle Performance\, Non-Members    $25 \nAt-The-Door Admission:\nSingle Performance\, A&H Members   $25\nSingle Performance\, Non-Members    $28 \n50% of your ticket price is tax deductible as a donation! \n[plsc_button url=”https://artandhistory.secure.force.com/ticket/#sections_a0F1H00000CmqWHUAZ” target=”_self” color=”gray” style=”flat” radius=”square” size=”lg”]Click here to purchase tickets[/plsc_button] \n[plsc_divider color=”black” style=”solid”]
