Students create their own encaustic medium by combining beeswax\, damar resin\, and pigment\, as well as learning how to use the application equipment. SUMMARY:Automatic Drawing
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Ryan Price \nLocation: Studio C \nCost: $60 + $5 material fees \nMaterials fees must be paid in cash directly to the instructor\, and are due on the day of the workshop. \nNo drawing experience is required! Open to all levels. Automatic drawing is a technique named by and commonly used by the Surrealists\, which involves the artist directly and randomly moving the pen or drawing tool with no preconceived image or plan. This technique is similar to what writers termed “Stream of consciousness” writing\, where\, through a mental shift\, drawing automatically allows participants to let their subconscious flow through their hands. Participants will be encouraged to draw their hearts’ content out and learn to unshackle themselves from hesitation caused by the anxiety of being confronted by a blank sheet. Students will create many drawings using many different materials to get them out of their heads and out of their comfort zones. Students will learn about processes like automatism\, frottage\, and responsive drawing. The drawing doesn’t ever have to be quote-on-quote finished; it can be left as a single deposit of personal memory. There is no right or wrong way to practice automatic drawing. \nRegister Here!

Bring a friend\, a date\, or come by yourself to make new friends who share your interest in the arts. \n  \n\nFor more information about our current exhibition Vilomah: Against the Natural Order: \nSoude Dadras is an artist\, curator\, and educator currently living and working in Atlanta\, Georgia. She was born in Iran and graduated from Islamic Azad University with a bachelor’s degree in Persian Rugs. Dadras was awarded her MFA from the Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University in Atlanta. In her solo exhibition\, Vilomah: Against the Natural Order\, Dadras investigates the traumatic sociocultural experiences she encountered firsthand in Iran\, as well the processes and rituals of healing which enabled her to turn her pain into positivity. DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Hazel Griffiths \nLocation: Studio C \nWednesday\, November 4 & 11 | This is a 2-day workshop that spans two weeks! \nCost: $95 + $40 material fees \nMaterials fees must be paid in cash directly to the instructor\, and are due on the day of the workshop. \nIn this engaging all-level workshop\, participants will unleash their creativity by re-imagining what a surface can be. Learn to create a variety of textures from organic to abstract forms\, using encaustic wax and mixed media techniques that can be incorporated into any painting style or subject matter. \nAll materials are provided; students are free to bring in their own substrate as long as it’s a solid surface (not canvas). Students are also encouraged to bring photo references of textures for inspiration if they’d like. \nRegister Here!
