SUMMARY:New Works: An Artist-in-Action Group Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Originally founded in the 1930s as an artists’ colony\, the Maitland Art Center proudly continues that legacy through our Artists-in-Action program\, which grants on-campus studio space to Central Florida-based artists each year. The 2019-2021 group will exhibit the work they’ve created in their residency in this collaborative show: Nicholas Kalemba\, Matthew Mosher\, Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz\, Jacoub Reyes\, Ericka Sobrack\, and Victoria Walsh. DESCRIPTION:Join Dan Hess and Rebecca Sexton Larson for a virtual artist critique to support professional development of local artists.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Art & History Museums of Maitland (A&H) proudly presents Artist’s Critique & Conversation\, an exciting initiative supporting local artists to help them develop professionally. Artist’s Critique & Conversation will be held December 2nd at 6:30 p.m (ET). A virtual conversation led by Dan L. Hess\, Chief Preparator\, and Rebecca Sexton Larson\, former A&H Chief Curator and artist. Followed by a Q&A for the audience to participate in. \nArtist’s Critique & Conversation is free on Zoom with registration\, but donations are appreciated. A Zoom link with be shared once registered. Artists of every medium and skill level are encouraged to participate in the critiques. This critique will review 2 randomly selected artists from those who submit their works by November 15th. \nCall For Artists is open now through November 15th. DESCRIPTION:Saturday Painting Workshops are a great way to expand your painting skills\, whatever your skill level!\n\n\n\nThese workshops are a blend of painting and mixed media techniques\, exploring a looser style of painting and greater expression. Complete a project in each unique workshop. Workshops are appropriate for all learners. \nPaint your own dog! Come learn color recipes\, brush technique and drawing techniques to accurately portray your pooch! Each student will be working from a straight forward headshot of their own pup. SUMMARY:Beginning Silk Screen Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A&H Artist-in-Action Jacoub Reyes leads this beginners’ silk screening workshop!\n\n\n\nLearn how to create your own screen print and take home an edition of 5 prints! This course will go over the basics of how to transfer and image onto your screen and how to print duplicates. Please bring hand drawn images that can be painted. If you would rather silk screen a shirt\, please bring your own shirt and you may do so instead of the edition of prints. \nThis workshop has a $25 materials fee\, which can be paid in cash at the beginning of the workshop. This is in addition to the workshop registration fee. \nThis workshop takes place in the Studios at Lake Lily\, not the Maitland Art Center main campus. Please note the location on your ticket. \nAbout Jacoub \nJacoub Reyes is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Orlando\, Florida. He has been featured in several publications such as The American Institute of Graphic Arts\, Centric\, and Artborne Magazine. A recipient of the Southern Graphics International grant award\, J.R. A Zoom link with be shared once registered. \nRegister >> \n  \nAbout the Artist-in-Residence Program \nA&H is proud to host artists from all over the world through our Artists-in-Residence program! During their residency\, Artists-in-Residence (AiRs) live and work in the historic Maitland Art Center\, receiving inspiration from the historic artists’ commune and the surrounding community. \nAbout Nellie Appleby \nNellie Appleby is from the mountains of Virginia and she spent influential childhood years in Botswana. She earned her Bachelors degree in Anthropology from the University of Virginia and her Masters of Fine Art in Photography and Film from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is the recipient of many grants including two South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowships and a Virginia Museum of Fine Art Fellowship. She has exhibited her works at The Museum of Contemporary Art Miami\, ChaShaMA\, Dimensions Variable\, The Rutter Family Foundation\, David Castillo\, Oolite Arts\, The Deering Estate\, Florida Atlantic University\, Anderson Gallery\, Museo Ex-Convento del Carmen (Guadalajara)\, Galería Metropolitana (Mexico City)\, Wildfist and The Cave among others. She is thankful to have been awarded residencies at The Research Studio Maitland\, Vermont Studio Center\, Carrizozo AIR\, Residencia en la Tierra and The Studios of Key West among others. Her life and work are deeply engrossed with the study of ecology and plants\, the cultivation of gardens and beauty\, the exploration of wildness and the examination of culture and expression through the actions of photography and sculpture. She has dedicated her life to these practices. \nShe lives and works between sub tropical South Florida and the mountains of Virginia.
