Art31: Borrowed Light – Stephen Knapp, Deanna Morse, Nathan Selikoff & C.R. Barnett
March 3, 2017 @ 11:00 am - April 16, 2017 @ 4:00 pm$3
For 31 days in March, contemporary artists from across the U.S. create new works and engage the public in the creative process. Art31 is a series of exhibits and art happenings that honors the Art & History Museums – Maitland (A&H) Maitland Art Center’s history as the Research Studio. In the spirit of experimentation and collaboration in modern art, the Research Studio welcomed luminaries such as Milton Avery and Ralston Crawford from 1937 – 1959.
The centerpiece exhibition of Art31, Borrowed Light provides a platform for artists working in the medium of “light-based installations” to collaborate and experiment in the galleries and on the grounds of A&H’s National Historic Landmark campus. As technology grows, the ability to create interactive lighting installations inspires artists to push the boundaries of materials and creativity. To uphold the standard as one of the most experimental and collaborative art festivals in Florida, Art31: Borrowed Light will feature events that expose visitors to the artistic process. The A&H campus will come alive with the Culture Pop! opening event and close on March 31, with a combination of visual and performing arts featuring Voci Dance.
