From painting to jewelry-making, we are excited to offer you a vast array of learning opportunities to begin a new journey or enhance your craft. The choice is yours. About Materials Fees and Supplies
Each course has either a supply list or a materials fee associated with it. View the supply lists for all classes here. Materials fees must be paid in cash directly to the instructor, and are due on the first day of classes. No additional materials are required for classes that have a materials fee unless otherwise noted.
*CANCELED*Landscape Painting Using Reference Photography
Mondays 11am-1pm, January 11-March 8
Instructor: Ericka Sobrack (Artist-in-Action)
Location: Zoom (virtual)
Cost: $150 + supplies
This virtual class centers on the interpretation and translation of the Floridian landscape using reference photography. It will focus on the fundamentals of painting materials, color mixing, form and technique to develop and realize a total of four paintings. The landscape/setting will be of the students’ choosing, with each painting anchored in different prompts and approaches to the subject matter, but loosely following the themes and goals as guided by the instructor.
Beginning Drawing, Intro to Acrylics, Design Fundamentals, or other similar courses are recommended prerequisites.

Drawing Animals (pre-recorded)
Pre-recorded via private Facebook group - 4 sessions of 2 hour videos
Instructor: PJ Svejda
Cost: $80 + Supplies
The classes consist of four (roughly 2 hour) videos on the step by step process of drawing different animals. Each class consists of 2 animal drawings going through the step by step process of measuring, proportion, shading, highlighting and rendering. All using graphite on drawing paper.
Students are free to communicate with instructor with pictures of progress, questions, etc through Facebook messenger or directly in the group. Education team will share Private Facebook group name once student registers.
Painting Workshop (pre-recorded)
Pre-recorded 2.5-hour workshops via private Facebook group
Instructor: PJ Svejda
Cost: $15 + Supplies
The workshop is open for those working in acrylic or oil. The 2.5 hour session will take you step by through painting each subject, learning color mixing, brush strokes and techniques.

Portrait Painting Class (pre-recorded)
4 pre-recorded 2-hour sessions via private Facebook group
Instructor: PJ Svejda
Cost: $80 + Supplies
The classes consist of four (roughly 2 hour) videos on the step by step process of portrait painting. I will discuss color mixing, drawing, under painting, glazing and final details. The goal of these classes is to teach portraiture and how it changes by the models age, ethnicity , gender and the way lighting is applied.
Students are free to communicate with instructor with pictures of progress, questions, etc through Facebook messenger or directly in the group. Education team will share Private Facebook group name once student registers.

Jewelry Fabrication
Classes begin the week of January 11 and run for 9 weeks - see full schedule below

Location: Studio 5 at the Maitland Art Center
Cost: $185 + materials fee (new students $25 for first two projects plus $25 shop fee; returning students pay $25 shop fee and bring all materials)
Join this popular program to learn the three stages of fabrication – cutting, welding, polishing – while completing original projects. Students also learn stone-setting and safety techniques.

Tuesdays 5:30pm-8:30pm
January 12 - March 9
Instructor: Marion Fague-Bass
Location: Studio 10 at the Maitland Art Center
Cost: $200 + shop fee: $50 to cover first project only. Expect to pay $75-125 on metal clay for remaining projects.
Discover the wonderful world of precious metal clay. Students will get extensive hands-on experience in the basics of metal clay and will be guided step-by-step through the process to design and create several unique pieces. Best practices will be taught for working with metal clay including rolling, texturing, cutting, shaping, refining, firing, finishing, etc.
Jewelry: Intermediate Metal Clay

January 14 - March 11
Instructor: Marion Fague-Bass
Location: Studio 10 at the Maitland Art Center
Cost: $185 + materials and $15 shop/studio fee, $5 per firing.
Expand your experience with precious metal clay! Students will continue the hands-on art of precious metal clay, design and create several unique pieces while learning best practices for working with metal clay including rolling, texturing, cutting, shaping, refining, firing, finishing, etc.

Tuesdays 1-4pm, January 12-March 9
Instructor: Marion Fague-Bass
Location: Maitland Art Center Studio 10
Cost: $190 + materials/shop fee: $15. Firing fees: $10 per session for ACS fine silver; $10 per firing all other clays.
Enjoy collegial time with other metal clay makers! During this open studio time, students can work on their own projects at their own pace. Themes and new skills will be introduced on occasion for those interested in expanding their skills. Students will work independently, but the instructor will be available at all times.
Textures, molds, cutters, etc. will be available for use during class, but students will be required to bring their own personal working tools. Prerequisite: Beginning Metal Clay or equivalent skills, Intermediate Metal Clay preferred but not required.
Beginning Watercolors

Start at the very beginning to acquire fundamental watercolor skills and explore techniques unique to this medium. A step-by-step approach ensures success for all students, regardless of experience.
Intro to Acrylic Painting

Students will learn how to paint still life, landscapes, people, pets with special attention to color, form, texture, value and brush technique.
Applying Color Theory

A series of small painting studies focusing on foundational rules of color theory. Learn the basics of color mixing for any painting. Everything from basic color mixing, temperature (which colors are warm or cool), highlights, shadows, reflective colors, value, whew! Whether you are a novice or a professional this class is packed with tips and tricks that are sure to change the way you look at color forever. Each class will cover a new skill with small practice exercises.

This multi-level class gives you the opportunity to explore acrylic paint to create three guided paintings, each completely different in subject and style. Your fourth painting is done independently with your choice of subject. Whether you have basic skills, are already a painter, or want a refresher, this is a fun class to learn skills, technique and color theory!
Intermediate Oil Painting

This course will allow students to continue to develop their oil painting technique as the classical painters have. Prerequisite: Beginning Oil Painting
Advanced Painting
Sundays 1pm-5pm

Cost: $275 plus supplies (see supply list)
This class is designed for students who are familiar with painting basics, and are looking to explore new and different techniques, including incorporating mixed media, increasing their skills, and more. Beginning watercolors, or similar, is a recommended prerequisite.
Beginning Pottery
Thursdays 6pm-9pm
January 14 - March 11
Instructor:Richard Munster
Location: Studio 4 at the Maitland Art Center
Cost: $245 + $40 materials fee
Students will be taught the basics of working with clay techniques in hand building, wheel throwing, altering shapes, decorating, glazing and firing. Students select the projects made, or select to follow a scheduled project for the lesson. Personal and group instruction are provided.
Ceramics Open Studio
Thursdays 6pm-9pm
Begins January 14 (choose 4 or 9 weeks)
Instructor: Richard Munster
Location: Studio 4 at the Maitland Art Center
Cost: 4 weeks: $124, 9 weeks: $245; materials fee $40
Looking to pursue a path in ceramics? Need only an occasional helpful hint? Ceramics Open Studio is available! Students provide own materials and supplies to create artwork. Staff are happy to answer occasional questions, but this is for self-directed, experienced artists. Please note: clay body & supplies guidelines available upon request.
Pottery: Alternative Firings
Tuesdays 6pm-9pm
January 12 - March 9
Instructor:Jim Patterson
Location: Studio 4 at the Maitland Art Center
Cost: $245 + $40 materials fee
Work with alternative firing techniques such as saggars, horse hair, raku and pit firing. Other techniques include airbrushing stoneware glazes, trailing glaze and slip, colored clay, colored slip, and other decorative techniques. Beginning pottery, or extensive experience with clay, is recommended before taking this class.

Instructor:Michael Moffett
Location: Studio 10 at the Maitland Art Center
Cost: $295 + model fee ($45) and supplies
Students will learn to create a figurative sculpture in clay or wax from a live, nude model. This class is designed to be an open forum and each student will be encouraged to fully express their own artistic ideas using the human figure as a starting point. The instructor will work individually with each student to help them create the sculpture they envisioned. This class is appropriate for all learners. No previous experience with sculpting or figure work is required. *THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR WINTER 2021. Please check back next session!
Sculpting 1: Sculpting & Casting

Instructor: Kent Arblaster
Location: Studio 6 at the Maitland Art Center
Cost: $185 + materials fee (depending on project)
Beginning through advanced students will learn the lost wax method of casting, starting with techniques for sculpting in clay or wax. Then the process moves to construction of polyurethane or silicone molds. Final art pieces are cast in a myriad of materials, including acrylic & urethane plastics, foam rubber, plaster & cement products, plus metals and cold-cast metals. This is the perfect class for creating miniatures or cast jewelry. Participants must be over 18 years old. Class size is limited!
Teens Sculpting Class
Saturdays 1pm-4pm
January 16 - March 13
