A Constant Goodbye: The Table Runner’s Stories
January 27 @ 11:00 am - April 14 @ 4:00 pm
A&H’s Maitland Art Center
When artist Gisela Romero emigrated from her native country of Venezuela five years ago, she chose to take a table runner with her as her remembrance of home. In this powerful exhibition, the visual symbolism of the table runner becomes the basis for the story of Romero’s experience, along with her meditations on the experiences of all who are compelled to leave their home countries. Romero, now an American citizen, has constructed a compelling narrative through written texts, textiles, drawings, and installation. This exhibition examines the human drama of immigration by embodying the wide range of raw emotions that accompany individuals when they decide to leave their country of origin to start a new life.
