Art31: Fiber Artist Talk
Art31: Fiber artists Alisha McCurdy and Carrie Sieh will discuss their processes and more at this free talk. Preceding the talk, Carrie will present a lecture titled “Cultural Excavation Through Art”.
Carrie Sieh is a visual artist working primarily in experimental, textile-based mixed media. Her practice is rooted in historical research as well as personal history. She is currently preparing for an exhibition of thread paintings inspired by blueprint technology and family narrative. Using her idea of “cultural excavation” as a point of departure, Sieh will discuss her time-intensive, research-based process; the personal meaning embedded in her work; and the symbolism of the materials and images she chooses to utilize.
About the exhibition, on view March 2 – April 22, 2018: Art31: Fiber features the work of a group of internationally recognized artists who create with cloth, paper, and other fibers, and use techniques like stitching, quilting and more, as methods of engaging with their environments.
