What has Become of the Things I Loved, by André Smith

Art and the Subconscious, published by the Research Studio in 1937, contains reproductions of 38 watercolors by André Smith. Eight of these original drawings are on view at the Maitland Art Center, as part of the current exhibition, Drawing the Unseen: Artists Explore the Subconscious. In a lecture on Smith’s illustrated book, Rangsook Yoon, A&H’s Director of Experiences, will account for its text and fantastic drawings replete with personal symbols, which are results of Smith’s experiment in automatic transcription.

Following her lecture at the Germaine Marvel Building (6:30–7:10pm), Dan L. Hess, the Orlando-based artist who curated the Drawing the Unseen exhibition, will lead a tour in the Maitland Art Center galleries (7:15-8:00pm), focusing on works by Matt Duke, Kathryn Cellerini Moore, Anthony Deal, and Ian Jones.
