Homeschool Day at A&H: Architecture Tour & Printmaking Workshop

May 12, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Art & History Museums – Maitland

You’re invited to step into the fantastical world of artist, master printmaker and architect J. André Smith at the Art and History Museums in Maitland for a special Homeschool Day! Get your tickets here>>

Become inspired on a mini tour of our historic grounds where you’ll see some of the 2,500 concrete reliefs adorned on the buildings, doorways, walkways and gardens. Our tour ends in our main garden, surrounded by a dozen artist studios that André built nearly 100 years ago, designed especially for visiting artists to live and work together in this creative and magical space.

After our tour in our beautiful garden, you’ll learn about the fine art of printmaking. You’ll discover the tools to create a relief print, and then experience printmaking through a guided printmaking lesson. Young printmaker apprentices will have the opportunity to make a plate, ink a plate and then pull a print!

After printmaking, revisit the architectural art of André Smith on a self-guided photo scavenger hunt.

The cost is $10 per child and includes all the art supplies and $5 per chaperone. Afterwards, you’re invited to extend your outing with a picnic lunch right next door at Quinn Strong Park.

Space is limited for students in grades K – 5 and especially chaperones. If chaperones are able, it would be best to bring multiple students due to the small capacity of this program.
