A&H’s Maitland Art Center

Andre Smith, ca. 1940

Since the Maitland Art Center, now Art and History Museums – Maitland, opened to the public, it has maintained a Permanent Collection of artworks ranging from founder André Smith’s works, to selections by modern artists that resided as “Bok Fellows,” and many other contemporary Florida artists. The permanent collection is broad in scope, offering a selection of artworks in various media and proportions.

Gallery 1: André “On Verso”
An exhibit of paintings by Maitland Research Studio founder André Smith created on the back side or ‘on verso’ of some of his notable artworks. A side often covered up during display, featured to the public for the first time.

Gallery 2: Bok Fellows
This display shows the many and various works by the artists that lived and worked on the Museum’s grounds with André between 1938 – 1957. The Gallery that was first constructed by André as a place for these artists to display and share their work with one another will once again feature the Bok Fellows.

Gallery 3-4: Selections from the Permanent Collection
The 3rd and 4th gallery will feature various works both painting and sculpture that have joined the Permanent Collection post-Smith and the Bok Fellows, showing the continuation of the Research Studio and André’s legacy.

Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
*Closed Major Holidays
Admission: $3 adults; $2 Seniors (55+) and Children (4-18 years); free Children (3 & under) and A&H Members (Memberships start at $30)
