The Art and History Museums of Maitland (A&H) are located on private property. All photographers (anyone capturing or recording an image for commercial, professional, artistic, or recreational use) are required to check in at the Main Office upon entering the grounds and before capturing any images. Same day passes are not available. Commercial, Professional, Portrait, and Artistic photographers are required to schedule in advance and obtain a photo pass prior to the session date.
The Art and History Museums -- Maitland reserves all rights for photographic reproduction of Museum property.

Submitting your photo session request does not confirm your date or time. Photography may not begin until the photo pass is purchased and date is approved.
Commercial Photography
Commercial photography is defined as any photography produced for publication or promotional use (i.e. stylized shoots). A&H specifically reserves all rights for photographic reproduction of Museum property. No commercial use of such photographs is permitted without written approval by the Executive Director(s). In general, non-educational and commercial reproductions of Museum property will not be approved. Requests by individuals will be handled on a case by case basis.
Commercial photography requires permission of the Executive Director(s) and is by appointment only. A&H reserves the right to approve final content for anything in which A&H or its property will appear, either by name or by visual representation. Upon approval of request, fee and scheduling will be determined. Please contact the Events Manager directly for more information.
Professional Photography
Professional photography includes any photography for which income is derived including portraiture. Professional photography may be conducted in designated areas by photo pass and appointment only. During normal operating hours (Monday - Friday 10:00am - 4:00pm), the fee for photography is $100/hour; weekend photography is $200/hour and must be booked within 30 days of requested session date. All photographers are required to check in at the Main Office upon entering the grounds and before capturing any images.
Artistic Photography
Artistic photography is defined as photography conducted by an amateur or professional for use as an art form including social media. Portraits of any kind are considered artistic photography. Artistic photography may be conducted only in designated areas by photo pass and appointment only. During normal operating hours (Monday - Friday 10:00am - 4:00pm), the fee for photography is $100/hour, after-hours or weekend photography is $200/hour and must be booked within 30 days of requested session date. All photographers are required to check in at the Main Office upon entering the grounds and before capturing any images.
Recreational Photography
Recreational photography and enjoyment of our site(s) may be conducted in designated areas without an appointment and is free of charge. Portraits of any kind are not considered recreational photography. All photographers are required to check in at the Main Office upon entering the grounds and before capturing any images. A courtesy call is requested if groups or classes plan to visit.
The following rules apply to ALL photography at the Art and History Museums of Maitland (A&H):
- Flash photography is not permitted inside any Museum.
- Flow of visitors along streets, driveways, and pathways must not be blocked at any time.
- Plants and planted containers may not be moved, rearranged, or handled in any way. Flowers may not be picked.
- Visitors may not climb or hang from trees or architectural features.
- Climbing, sitting, standing, or walking on walls, fences, structures, trees, or water features is strictly forbidden.
- Guests, photographers, and their equipment must stay on pathways – walking in plant beds or behind plant beds or placing equipment in beds is prohibited.
- Hanging of props or gear on trees, plants, or architectural features is prohibited.
- Guests and photographers may not close gates or otherwise restrict access to other guests unless they have reserved an area in advance.
- A&H does not assume any responsibility for loss, theft or damage to equipment.
- A&H maintains the right to adjust these policies, in specific instances, for the best interests of the properties, collections, and the general public.
