Artists: Tory Tepp, Jill Altamore and Kim Reighter Indigo Waves is an interactive public art project that incorporates the growing of plants into an installation designed for the creation of art. Here we follow a process of art making that begins with seeds, sun and water. Once the plants have matured, they can be harvested and processed to make dyes, inks, pigments and fibers. The Maitland Art Center's spring exhibition proudly features both an insider's and outsider's perspective of the African-American community in Maitland and Eatonville during the 20th century. The outsider is the Maitland Art Center's own founder, J. André Smith, and the insider perspective is brought by local artist Jane Turner, who still lives and works in Eatonville and Maitland. Meet Ms. Turner and hear how her personal history intertwines with local history - and how her artwork is influenced by both.
